To describe this practice, I could compare it to automatic writing for a novelist. I’ll combine an improvised selection of photos, drawings, sketches and paintings in an almost arbitrary fashion in order to arrive at… a destination that is unknown at the outset and only reveals itself on arrival. Sometimes, never. The few examples shown on this page are witness to the difficulty of succeeding in this approach and the tenuous nature of the guarantee it offers of success. Despite this, when a positive result is acheived, it can be deeply rewarding. This process is mysterious, opaque and ultimately subjective. It is an exploration into black box creativity.
